More than 20 poets, members of the Malta Poets Association, attended an Evening of Poetry. The well-attended event was held at the Parochial Centre in Attard on Friday 8th January 2010. This was held with the cooperation of the Gh.P.M., the Attard Local Council and the Attard Cultural section of the Pastoral Parish council.
Poems were read in both Maltese and English about various subjects. Patrick Sammut Vice President of the Malta Poets Association gave a speech about the Sonnet, how this was introduced in our literature. Dr. Joseph Axiaq Assistant Secretary was compere for the evening. The young violinist Augusto Quintano enchanted the audience with classical solos.
Alfred Massa expressed his satisfaction that the musico-literary evening drew a large audience. Massa insisted on the importance of Poetry in our times and referred to the appeal made at the World Congress of poets for poets to work towards peace, the values and the brotherhood of man. Once again Massa encouraged all those present to use the website of the Malta Poets Association for information about activities that from time to time the association organizes to nurture the interest of poetry on our island.
At the end of the evening a well-planned out reception, by the Local Council volunteers, was held for those who had attended.
